Day 3 – Evidence against us

August 29, 2023

Series: Discipleship

Topic: discipleship

Book: 1 John

MEMORY VERSE

“Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.”
– 1 John 3:6

Again, we are looking at the subject of abiding in Yeshua. To abide means to dwell with, to remain in, and to never depart. When we abide in Yeshua, we do not sin. It is only when we step away from Him that we allow sin into our life. Sin is evidence that we are not walking with Him, because when we walk with Him, we turn away from sin.

Think about it this way. When all of your thoughts are constantly about God, meditating on His Word, praying, and thinking about what pleases Him, you are not giving any thoughts to sinful things. However, when we take our focus off of Him, our thoughts begin to stray into sinful things.

When our mind wanders into sinful things, we need to immediately recognize this as a signal that we are not abiding in Him. Take those thoughts captive, and immediately turn our heart and mind back toward God.

If we want to have victory over sin, we must abide in Yeshua, abide in the Word of God, and abide in prayer.

One thought on “Day 3 – Evidence against us

  1. Second day accomplished all goals. I had my daughter quiz me last night on day one’s memory verse Matthew 10:25, day two’s memory verse John 15:5 (tbh, already had that one) and I added Proverbs 18:17. I added that one because of the impact you Passover Study had. Several years ago I heard you say that Yeshua ate the Passover, however, I was so convinced He didn’t because I had “tested everything” that I didn’t even “test it”. Kind of ironic huh? I’m here because I lack discipline. I have never been good at setting goals so this is great for me. I look forward to much growth during this time and I hope my feedback is encouraging to you Lex. You’re decision to do this, I presume through the leading of the spirit, is helping my walk. I have been reading through the bible once a year for many years now and the spirit is prompting me that this area of my life needs repentance and corrections. Thank you sir. I will be introducing you to my six sons in the very near future – they’re all grown and moved out. In the past I was an assistant pastor, with a strong teaching role and it’s a difficult task to get across to my boys that many of the things I taught them were incorrect and that they should listen to me now. I’m praying for the years the locusts took to be restored. Shalom brother.
