Day 7 – Walk like Yeshua

September 2, 2023

Series: Discipleship

Topic: discipleship

Book: 1 John

MEMORY VERSE

“He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.”
– 1 John 2:6

When you think about Yeshua, what are some of the first things that come to your mind? Think specifically about verbs and adjectives one might use to describe Yeshua.

Here are some of the words I thought of to describe Yeshua: compassionate, kind, sacrificial love, holy, wisdom, authority, righteous judgment, faithful, truthful, peaceful, sinless, and self-control. These are all part of His character and how He walked.

It’s easy for us to compare ourselves with the people around us and think we are more like Yeshua than they are, but this is backwards and gives us a flawed perspective. We need to look at Yeshua and compare ourselves with Him only. It doesn’t matter how you compare to others, what matters is if you are walking like Yeshua.

We are not simply asked to live above the standards of the World, we are asked to live up to God’s standards. Being better than the World is not enough when the goal is to be like Christ.

How can you become more like Yeshua?

  1. This has been a tough eye opening week. There is a difference between following Yeshua and being Yeshua’s disciple. These verses you have placed together have been very enlightening and I’m grateful for that. I’m seeing discipleship in a whole different light so I’m spending time memorizing all the scriptures you’re bringing up and recalling others on my own. Discipline has been a weakness of mine for as long as I can remember – I never set goals, seldom set a calendar to limit idol time etc. I’ve even wondered “if self discipline is a fruit of the spirit, when will He give me mine?” Then I began to tie what Peter says into my walk. 2 Peter 1:5-9
[2Pe 1:5 NKJV] But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
[2Pe 1:6 NKJV] to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
[2Pe 1:7 NKJV] to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
[2Pe 1:8 NKJV] For if these things are yours and abound, [you] will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
[2Pe 1:9 NKJV] For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
The above can’t be accomplished without abiding in Him. I’m not keeping the daily pace of your program, but you have no idea how much this is correcting my walk. Thank you-
