Day 23 – Double Minded

Series: Discipleship

Topic: faith

MEMORY VERSE

“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

– James 1:6-8

Being double-minded is one of the biggest roadblocks in our faith. On one hand, we believe God answers prayer, but on the other hand, we think He might not. We believe God is love, but we think perhaps He doesn’t love me. We believe God is all-powerful, but we think maybe He isn’t able to do this. We believe God is able to heal, but we doubt that He can heal us.

Being double-minded is mixing belief with doubt, and the result is always unbelief.

The disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”
– Matthew 17:20

True faith is single-minded. This is what Yeshua was talking about when He spoke about faith like a mustard seed. It isn’t about the size of the seed, it’s about the purity of it. The Bible teaches us not to mix seeds, and the spiritual application of this is to have a pure unmixed seed of faith, like the mustard seed.

If you have faith and do not doubt, nothing will be impossible.
