MEMORY VERSE
“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
– 2 Corinthians 7:1
The Bible teaches that “the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.” Having a proper fear of God is absolutely necessary for us to walk in holiness and do the things that please Him. We should fear God because He is holy and we are sinful. We should fear God because He is able to destroy us. The fear of God is what causes us to become holy.
Notice this verse says, “let us cleanse ourselves”, indicating this is something we are actively participating in and pursuing. This is not something that happens passively or by accident. It is intentional.
Pursuing God, walking in holiness, and resisting temptation all require diligence and discipline. You can’t be lazy in your pursuit of God.
The fear of God will cause you to cleanse yourself from sin and pursue holiness. Do you fear God?
