MEMORY VERSE
“Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!” - Deuteronomy 5:29
God equates our obedience with the fear of the Lord. If we fear the Lord, we will obey His commandments and do what pleases Him. However, if we do not obey His commandments, that means we do not actually fear Him.
Fear of the Lord is linked with understanding His authority.
When you are driving and you see a police car, you probably look down to check your speed. This is because you understand his authority, and you don’t want to get a speeding ticket. Fear of the police keeps you from speeding in the same way the fear of the Lord keeps you from sinning.
Fear of God is a recognition of His power, His authority, His justice, His holiness, and His standards of right and wrong.
God’s desire is for us to love Him, fear Him, and obey Him.
“Oh, that they had such a heart in them…”
