Topic: scripture

Book: Psalms

MEMORY VERSE

“How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.”
– Psalm 119:9

To “take heed” means to listen carefully and apply what you hear.

Have you ever given advice or warning to someone and they didn’t take heed? Or, has someone given you advice that you didn’t listen to, and you had regrets for not putting their advice into practice?

The Word of God is the source of wisdom and tells us how to be made clean, how to avoid sin, and how to live a godly life. However, there is a significant difference between knowing and doing. You can know what is right, but it only helps you if you put it into practice. This is what it means to take heed.
We need to know the Word of God, but we also need to let it transform our lives. Anyone can memorize Scripture, anyone can know what the Bible says, but knowing the Word and obeying the Word are two very different things.

Knowledge without obedience is a huge pitfall for many Christians. They deceive themselves into thinking that knowing the Scriptures is all they need, but they haven’t figured out how to put those things into practice. Head knowledge does not equal godliness.

We must heed the council, the warnings, and the instructions that God has given us if we want to have victory over sin.
