MEMORY VERSE
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things.”
– Philippians 4:8
Meditation in the Bible has nothing to do with chanting or emptying your mind. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. When the Bible speaks about “meditation” it means to fill your mind, to think deeply about something, to concentrate, and to consider carefully.
We are instructed to keep our mind focused on godly things, but the world is constantly seeking to fill our mind with garbage. The news media is filled with chaos, crime, disaster, and things that cause fear. Social media is filled with fake news, opinions, lies, gossip, conspiracies, and narcissism. The entertainment industry is full of sex, crime, violence, blasphemy, and hatred of God.
How do we fill our mind with truth in a world of lies? How do we think of noble things in a world without honor? How do we fill our mind with justice, purity, and praise in an unjust world that is full of perversion and depression? The only way to do this is to shut out the influence of the world on our mind, and to fill our mind with the Word of God.
Stop filling your mind with worldly things and only allow the Word of God to shape your thinking.
