MEMORY VERSE
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”
– Colossians 4:2
To devote yourself means “to give all or a large part of your time and resources to something”. People will get up early for school, and for work, and even to go fishing, but are we willing to get up early to meet with God in prayer?
Devotion has to do with consistency. If we only pray occasionally we are not devoted to prayer. If we only pray when we feel like it, we are not devoted to prayer. Being devoted to prayer means we pray consistently, even when we don’t feel like it, and even when it’s not convenient.
When you are devoted to something, you don’t let anything stop you or get in your way.
Daniel was devoted to prayer, and he continued to pray consistently three times per day even when the king threatened his life. And because of Daniel’s devotion to God through prayer, God shut the mouth of the lions.
A disciple is someone who is devoted to prayer.
