MEMORY VERSE


“For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.”
– Hebrews 4:2

The Word of God does not benefit us if we do not believe it. It must be mixed with faith. There are plenty of atheists who know what the Bible says, but they don’t believe it.

This verse is speaking about those who left Egypt in the Exodus, and it says the gospel was preached to them, but they didn’t believe. To better understand this, we need to look in chapter 3.

“And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.”
– Hebrews 3:18-19

The Bible is equating obedience with belief and disobedience with unbelief. This means if we have faith, we will obey the LORD.

It also says they hardened their hearts and tested God in the wilderness because they didn’t trust God to bring them through the wilderness safely. They were hungry and thirsty, they saw their enemies as giants that outnumbered them, and they were afraid because they didn’t have faith in God to lead them.
Faith in God requires obedience, and obedience to God brings victory in every situation.
