MEMORY VERSE
“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
– 2 Corinthians 7:1
We are told to cleanse ourselves and perfect holiness. This means our sanctification is not passive. We are expected to be involved in the process. We are expected to practice holiness, pursue holiness, and perfect holiness, but this is only possible when we fear the Lord.
The goal of a disciple is to be like our master. Yeshua is holy, and He wants us to be holy.
“A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.”
– Luke 6:40
When we are trained, we will be like our Master. Discipleship is meant to train us to be like Yeshua. His desires become our desires. His will becomes our will. Our morality is a reflection of His, and our character matches the character of our Lord. We are called to be imitators of God.
“Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.”
– Ephesians 5:1
Cleansing ourselves from the filth of the flesh and perfecting holiness is what we are expected to do, and this is only possible with the fear of the Lord.
