MEMORY VERSE
“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”
– Romans 8:5
To set your mind to something means you narrow your focus on that one thing. It also indicates determination and perseverance. When we are determined to follow the Holy Spirit, we narrow our focus and look only to the things of the Spirit.
What is the motivation for living according to the Spirit? Paul gives us a good reason when he says, “For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” (Romans 8:13)
It is a matter of life and death. Pursuing the things of the Spirit is what brings life, but to live according to the flesh brings death.
Yeshua said, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63) Living by the Spirit is directly connected to the words of Yeshua. His Words are Spirit and they give life.
